Our Journey

Communicon 2020 is set forth to boldly discuss and teach what very few of us in healthcare have done before, and to get as many healthcare professionals to attend and perfect that art of successful Doctor – Patient Communications. To better the skills that will lead to improved patient-physician satisfaction.

2019 event was a great success. Today, 1 year later, we hope to have multi-fold participants.

"Clear communication" is the key to success of any relationship, especially the one that exists between a doctor and his or her patients.

International Conference on Communication in Healthcare

COMMUNICON 2020

Bridging The Gap Between Healthcare Professionals And the Society

4th & 5th April, 2020

Venue: National Board of Examinations Office

Dwarka, New Delhi

Communication in Healthcare domain is one of the most important tools we have for providing good patient care and improving patient satisfaction.

Effective communication is vital to practicing good medicine. Research shows that the patients of physicians who communicate well are more adherent to treatment advice, more satisfied with care and less likely to file malpractice suits.

When lines of communication are crossed, it leads to lower patient satisfaction scores, dissatisfaction, aggression, and even physical violence.

According to researchers Huntington and Kuhn the “root cause” of litigation and malpractice claims is a breakdown in communication between physicians and patients.

Just as doctors need to learn how to diagnose and treat disease, they also need to learn the art of effective communication.

Good communication with the patient and family is not the only aspect that needs to be addressed.

Communication within the team of healthcare members greatly impacts patient safety and quality of care provided. An estimated one third of adverse events are attributed to human error and system errors.

Research has shown that ineffective communication is the root cause for as many as 66% errors and this is greatly increased when healthcare team members are under stress and are working under critical and high risk situations.

WHO states ‘between 8% and 38% of health workers suffer physical violence at some point in their careers. Many more are threatened or exposed to verbal aggression and patients and visitors perpetrate most violence.

In view of the fact that there is lack of trust between the healthcare professional and the society, Society for Clinical Excellence decided to address this burning issue.

The “First  National Conference of Communication in Healthcare – COMMUNICON 2018” was held on 24th & 25th March in Delhi in association with the National Board of Examinations and the  Society for Clinical Excellence. All the major medical societies were in support of this venture.

The International Association of Communication in Healthcare (EACH), Europe, were our knowledge partners.

The conference  had International and national faculty which included doctors, paramedical staff, administrators and also faculty from the legal, police and other relevant professions. Workshops were conducted wherein the communication skills in different scenarios were taught.

The Conference was highly appreciated.

Carrying on from there, the International Conference on the subject “COMMUNICON 2020“ will  be held in association with the National Board of Examinations on the 4th & 5th of April 2020 in Delhi.

Faculty and delegates from all over India are expected to join in, share their experiences, and deliberate on the way forward.

Training workshops by national and international faculty will be an essential part of the conference.

Deliberations will also be carried out to find ways and means to fight this growing menace of
mistrust between the medical professionals and the society. We request your support in this endeavor.
